Violent Video Games

I know this seems to always be a hot topic: kids playing violent video games becoming violent themselves. I recently read the current Reader’s Digest ( August 2005) and in it was an article about a young man who killed police officers in Alabama. The young man’s defense attorney is blaming the gaming industry. That’s right the people who created Grand Theft Auto are responsible.
There is something weird about that statement isn’t there? Whatever happened to personal responsibilty for one’s actions? This almost reminds of the case about someone trying to sue McDonalds because he got fat from their food. Did the restuarant hold a gun to his head and force feed Big Macs and super-sized fries and a super-sized Coke down his throat. I think not- he did unto himself.
I do not mean to digress… this young man should be responsible for his actions. He is an adult. I dont think this defense of violent games creating violent people would hold up for other adults who kill others. This is totally absurd. What if he watched violent movies. There are plenty of cop-killing movies out there. I think most of us can remember when R-rated movies were to produce violent people. Hmmmm… very interesting.
You want to know something? I grew up watching r-rated movies horror films, movies were police men were killed like The Terminator. Also I have enjoyed violent games like Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Combat and others. I have never killed anyone and do not plan to kill anyone. I have no criminal record. So what does that make me the odd ball? No I think that is the opposite I am the norm. I know many people who experienced the same thing as I did. I guess I know what the difference between reality and fantasy is. Perhaps if others did there wouldnt be story.
Take a moment, Devin Moor, you grabbed the gun, you killed an officer, then you killed another, then another. I believe you knew what you were doing the whole time. You take the responsiblity and stop blaming other factors in your life because they did not do it.
