Useless Trivia for you Today

Hi there. My creative juices aren’t flowing at all toda, probably from the dilly of a cold I seem to be getting. You know the kind where your throat is sore as hell and you feel like your in outer space. Well anyway I get a daily newsletter from arcamax filled with trivia. I also get one for history. If you want sign up for this ezines to fill up your inbox and mind full of clutter go here: www.arcamax.com. Okay here’s some useless facts:

Where does Santa leave his sleigh?

When visiting Finland, Santa leaves his sleigh behind and rides on a goat named Ukko. Finnish folklore has it that Ukko is made of straw, but is strong enough to carry Santa Claus anyway.

What did Annie do with her medals?

“Little Miss Sure Shot,” Annie Oakley, had all of her gold shooting medals melted down, then sold the gold and gave the money to charity.

Why can’t you flash Elvis’s house?

The home tour of Graceland, Elvis Presley’s opulent mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, consists of the living and music rooms, Elvis’s parents’ bedroom, the kitchen, the TV, dining, and pool rooms, and “jungle” den in the main house. Behind the house, the tour takes in Elvis’s racquetball building and his original business office. A tour highlight for fans is “The King’s” trophy building, filled with his enormous collection of gold records and awards, and an extensive display of mementos, stage costumes, jewelry, and photographs. Flash photos at Graceland are no longer allowed. Over the years, the flashing has caused deterioration of the colors and fabrics in the rooms, as well as the oils in the paintings.

How many ways can you spell BINGO?

On a bingo card of 90 numbers, there are approximately 44 million ways to make B-I-N-G-O.

Did it take Eddie awhile to find his groove?

Eddie Arcaro, one of the greatest jockeys in horse race history, rode 250 losers before he won his first race. Ultimately, Arcaro won 4,779 races including five Derby winners, six in the Preakness, and six in the Belmont Stakes, on such famous horses as Whirlaway, Citation, and Kelso.

OKay that’s all today. Have a great fall Friday.

A Little Daydream

A few years ago when the PA state lottery was still doing the Super 6 drawing, a family from Bellefonte won about 8 million dollars. Well Bellefonte is pretty close to where I live and I thought, hey that could have been me. At the time I was working at Avail Northeast which manufactures plastic medical parts and I had to run the most boring press one day. You could not go anywhere because you had to manually pull the freshly made part out of the press. From start to finish this machine took 2 minutes to make one part. And doing this for 12 hours really makes one want to go away in lala land. OKay so I am thinking to myself what would I do if Iwon 8 million dollars. This is one of my favorite daydreams.

I buy this old home in the middle of the woods. It is winter time and the snow has not started to fall yet. I home alone and it is very quiet except for the crackling and snapping of the fire and Enya playing softly in the background. I grab a fresh cup of black coffe and sit at my laptop which is placed right next to the window. I sit there and stare out the white curtained framed window to the outside. Then the snow starts to fall gently. I hear the wind pick up some and tickle the naked trees. The snow picks up a little more. I add another log to the fire and come back to my front row seat. Now there is a fleece blanket of snow laying across the unraked leaves. I sit there for the rest of the night just watching the snow fall. I have no worries and not thoughts just pure enjoyment of the first snowfall of the year.

Oh yeah at the bottom of the page there is an ad for posters and prints of vintage prints. If you are interested in that type of stuff take a look.

Have a dreamy day.

Intelligent Design or Darwinism

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

Did a higher power create life or was it natural selection?

As many of you heard about a little school in PA that allows the teaching of Intelligent Design in the public high school there. This case is going to the state courts now. For the right reason- the Intelligent Desgin sounds too much like creationism to me. For those who don’t know the Intelligent Design theory is, in a nutshell, it is that life is too complicated that it had to be created from a higher power. To me a high power says God.

I am going to offer a compromise. We can’t deny that this country was built on god-fearing peoples. What the founding fathers I believe were trying to accomplish by separating church from state is to create a society unlike a Roman Emprorer socitey or run by the Pope. They believed in society where you can be free to practise any religion you feel is right for you. We also can’t deny that so much art is based on the Bible and the stories with in as well art based on other cultures of creationsism.

Why don’t they teach the stroy of creation along with other stories from other cultures in a Humantities type of class. When I was sophmore at Merrimack High School In New Hampshire, I learned these creation stories from a mythical stand point in my English class. Of course sophmore English in that school district was called Humanities. I did not just learn the Judeo-Christian story of creation but the Chinese, the Greco-Roman and many others. She taught it from the stand point of it being a myth.

I am sure many people agree that many of the stories in Bible could be taken as a myth. This way the information gets out there but does not invade the science classes. But don’t just teach the Judeo-Christian way but all religions and all cultures including ancient. This way the students can make a decision on their own.

We as society have a responsiblity to encourage free thought and opinions and many opinions should be expressed in all schools. Teach the stories of Intelligent Design in another class from another veiw point where the teacher does not endorse anything, but shows the students the myths that people believed in. And let Darwnisim or evolution taught in science class where it belongs.

There will never be a fix to this debate. And no matter how many compromises come up, no one will ever be happy. This topic will be debated forever. Because everyone wants to know why we are we here and how did we become here. As long as human live on this planet this topic will either scientific or religious. There is no right answer or wrong.

People on whole want to believe in something that makes sense to them. And that is why the creation stories were created and that is why Charles Darwin developed his theory of natural selection or evolution.

Have a good day.

PSU v Northwestern

Published by J Scott under lion lowdon

We Are… Penn State!!!

Okay, I know already posted for the day but I just got the score the Penn State v. Northwestern game.

Here it is… 34-29 Penn State. This is the first time in many years PSU has won an opening Big 10 game.

So as of right now PSU is 4-0. That’s right 4-0.

I might not have graduated from PSU. I did go there for 2 and half years. But if I go back to school and I’d like to I would return to PSU. I always rooted for the football team. They are doing really well this year and they have a lot of freshmen on the team. Who knows they could make it to the Rose Bowl again. That would be great.

I love Penn State and I love when they win.

I am rooting for you, Lions!!!

WE ARE!!!! PENN STATE!!!!!

Have a Nittany Lion day!!

GI Blues Song Chapter 9

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

Jason wakes her up at 6 am, ” I have to go. You can stay here if you want.”

“I can’t, I have to watch the kids. Can you give me ride home?”

“Yeah, no problem.” He kisses her on the mouth.

She rushes and puts on her clothes and in 15 minutes she is back at home. They kiss each other.

“Come over later, Day.”

“I will.”

She gets out of the car and he drives off.

“God dammit, Daylene can’t you git home when you need to? You know you have to watch my kids.” Chantel yells at her.

“Well I’m home now. So leave.”

“I’m running late because of you. How bout you let me use your car so I git there?”

Daylene fishes the keys out of her purse, “Fine, don’t wreck it.”

“Well at least you can afford another one.” Chantel takes the keys and runs off. Daylene hears the car tires screech out of the driveway. A few minutes later Dionne comes through the door.

“I thought you weren’t here.”

“Chantel suckered me into letting her use my car. You know I was late getting back this morning.”

“How was you trip?”

“The best. I spent the night at his place last night. He lives in Harmony Gardens. I think he’s the one Dionne. I know he is.”

She laughs, “Daylene you say that about every man you been with.”

“No I don’t.”

“Mmm hmmm. Well I remember. What makes him so special? Lemme guess you don’t know. He just is and he makes me feel soooo good.”

Daylene lowers her head and doesn’t answer her.

“See that’s what I thought,” Dionne says, “You don’t know what love is. You think cause you sleep with someone that you love em.”

“Then tell me, what love is. So I know,” Daylene pleads with her.

“Hun, love is something that has to be grown you know like a flower.”

“What about love at first sight?”

“Day, there ain’t no such thing. This guy won’t last. They never do. You say you love him, that love at first bull and hten boom a few months or weeks or whatever they are gone. Cause something is wrong with them.”

“This is different Dionne you wait and see.”

“Lord, I wish it was true.”

Hurricane Rita

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

Another strong and largehurricane is bearing down on the Gulf Coast, yet again. I remember a few years ago when it seemed hurricanes came up the eastern seaboard. Or is it just my imagination? My family and I used to cacation in the famed hurricane alley, The Outer Banks of North Carolina.

There the houses are built on stilts to protect from the storm surge. On Ocracoke, there is one main road and only one way to get off the island, by ferry. Then all way the barrier islands there is only one road to get to the mainland. And boy does the traffic pile up when alot of people at the same time want to leave.

I can’t believe that in the wake of another damaging hurricane, the people of Huston can’t leave as quickly as they would like to. It is not that they don’t want to. After Katrina, mostly everyone wants to leave. The main road out of Huston is jam packed. That is pretty terrible. But I hope that it clears soon and maybe the traffic starts moving. The hurricane is coming and coming sooner then anyone would like.

But I see, we have already learned lessons from Katrina. FEMA is on it’s way and National Guard is ready too. So I again have the peoplele in the path of destruction in my thoughts. I hope many people leave and many lives can go one living. I truly hope we learned from Katrina and hopefully the death toll will be so much less.

The truth of the matter is there will be death. Some people are choosing to stay. And on CBS Evening News it seems as though many are elderly or sick and they want to stay and they say if it is there time, it is there time.

I wish everyone good luck and good wishes and a safe sojourn.

September 22- The Autumn Equinox

Hello all and happy fall equinox to you. For some this is an actual holiday and I think we know who we are. Yes, I am talking about the Pagans and Wiccans. I am a practising pagan and have been for 7 years now. I used to be non-denominational Christian. I went to church, I prayed, I did everything I was supposed to. But it never felt right to me.

Before I really knew anything about Paganism or Wicca, I was very interested in the mystical items. I got my first tarot deck at 16 and I bought runes and books about talismans and spells. I believed in it. And for some reason it made more sense to me. I met my friend, Jason who was Wiccan and he told me about his religion. At first, I made fun of him but he invited me in and I learned so much.

Let me tell you know WE ARE NOT DEVIL WORSHIPERS. Sorry to burst some of your bubbles. Many people in this faith believe that is there a goddess or collection of gods and goddesses. I do not believe in one entity. I believe, however, in a joining spirit. That there is something that combines us all. This is the right path for me and I know it. I chose a name for pagan name which is Summer Winds. Which by the way the summernreeze comes from but sumemr winds was taken.

Anyway, I will talk more about me and my faith from time to time especially on holidays.

Have a great day!

A Big Black Bear in a Pink Tutu

Published by J Scott under poems for children

Hello and Good morning all. Today I thought I would share something light hearted and kind of funny. This is another childrens’ poem. I hope you enjoy!

A Big Black Bear in a Pink Tutu

I see something weird

and as I near

it isn’t what I fear.

You ask, “What is so weird?”

A big black bear wearing a pink tutu.

Her name is LouLou.

She’s an escapee from the traveling zoo.

Oh, what am I to do?

She leaps in the air

and all I do is stare.

LouLou has no care

in the world. She’s rare.

LouLou spots me

and asks, “Would you like tea?”

I say sure

and she pours.

We have a good time

I pretend I am a mime.

Laughing, we hear a chime.

It’s the zoo owner, he flips me a dime.

Saying,”Thanks for finding my bear.”

“She’s rare.”

“See, she’s mine and it’s only fair

that I bring back to the show my bear.”

So LouLou

in the pink tutu

goes back to the traveling zoo

to entertain someone new.

Have a wonderful day!

My Life 9/19/05

Published by J Scott under notes on writing

Frustruations…

I am having this problem which is driving me crazy. I just can’t seem to write anymore. Oh yeah I am writing that little story, which I know is very, very rough. But I am talking about poems and other stuff. I don’t even know what happened. A lot of the poems that I have been posting are from a few years ago. I sit around with my paper and pen and just to write.

I can’t even work on my daughter’s book. I have writer’s block. I have tried everything. I cleaned out my closet which used to help me out cleaning. This past weekend I couldn’t be on the internet because my computer crashed. So I looked at it postively and thought great I can unplug and reconnect. Hmmmm…. that didn’t seem to work either.

I just don’t know what is going on with me. I had a teacher once who said if you want to be a writer you have to write every day. Well I am. At least try to. The thoughts are there but I can’t seem to put them on paper. I just sit there with the deer in headlight look.

This used to be so easy for me. I used to sit and write and I actually write an entire story in one night. I would write so much that my hand would cramp up. Then I get this unbelievable rush of completing something. Then I go through the editing process which takes forever. I never seem to be satisfied with the edits.

One day, I am just going to have to go the next level and just send a story out if I don’t think it is perfect. But maybe someone else will find acceptable.

Hey, thanks for reading today!

Have a luscious day ;)

GI Blues Song Chapter 8

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

Daylene wakes up the next morning and kisses Jason awake.

” Hey there sweetheart. He says.

“I wish we didn’t have to go today.”

“I know. I’ve got some vacation coming up maybe we can go to Florida or something.”

“Yeah maybe.”

Jason gets up from the bed and stretches. Daylene motions to him, “Hey come here.”

She pulls him closer and they make love again.

On the ride home to Biloxi, they hold hands just enjoying each other’s company. Daylene knows this is one the she has been waiting for all her life. She has been with a lot of men and never has been with someone where everytime he touches her, she melts. She thinks that maybe they are moving to fast. And in another week the fire will die and they won’t see each other anymore. That is a part of life, though. Alot of things don’t last forever. And how many people really find there one true love. Not many and she knows that. She can’t believe that she can be one of them. Daylene wonders if he feels the same. But she doesn’t dare ask becasue she might seem a little desperate ortr something. She doesn’t want to ruin this feeling that she has. She figures she might as well enjoy while it lasts because if it does end. She wants to remember this great love.

“Daylene, can I ask you something kind of personal?” Jason asks.

“You can ask me anything you want to,” she replies.

” Uhhh, when you say I love you do you mean it because of the moment or do you actually believe that you love me? Because I really do. I figure this is what love is. I thought I was in love before but never like this.”

She smiles, “Jason, if you asked me to marry you, I would. I know we’ve only met but I sometimes I feel like we’ve known each other forever.”

” Good, I thought I was off my rocker but since you feel the same. I am glad. I don’t want to scare you away.”

“You ain’t scared me yet. “

“You want to stay with me tonight, at my place. As long as you don’t mind me getitng up at the crack of dawn to got o work.”

She slides her hand on his leg, “I think you know the answer.”

A few hours later, they arrive at his mobile home just outside of Biloxi.

“I know it ain’t much but the rent is cheap.”

“I like it.” He picks her up in his arms and carries her in the home. She laughs. He makes her dinner and turns on the radio. She helps him clean the dishes.

“Wait right here. I ‘ll be back.” He leaves her sititng on the sofa. Daylene hears the water running in the bathroom.

“Come back here Day.”

She follows his voice and sees the bath tub filled with water. He slowly undresses her and she undresses him and they both get into the tub. She sinks back into his body. As he washes her. He embraces her long and hard.

“I never want tonight to end,” Daylene softly whsipers.
