Nursing Home Television Ads

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

You know what I think is odd, is the nursing ads on the tv. Most of them are saying that they are great place but you know who makes these testmonials? The relatives of the ones in the nursing homes. I rarely see people who live htere make the commercials. There is a couple- theya re mostly the assissted living homes.

If these place are so great they should have the actual people who live there say how great it is. I am pretty disturbed by this line of ads. Maybe some are really great places. I don’t know. It seems like to me that family thinks these are great places.

I used to work for a company that used to make products for Alzeihemr’s patients. It was a system where the patient wore a bracelet and when they tried to leave the alarm would sound and the doors would shut. I had to go a nursing home once to deliver the bracelets. I did not see nay other eldery walking through the nursing home. All I seen was nurses and other workers.

I hope I never have to put my parents in a nursing home. I always imagined them pretty lonely and boring places. The only way I would put them in a home is if the developed dementia or alzeihemer’s. Becasue I don’t have the skills to take care of that.

My great grandmother who is now 93 went into an assissted living home about maybe close to 10 years ago. She loves it there. She still lives in her own little place and they ahve many things for the residents to do. She lived with her son and his wife when my great grandfather was still living. after he died, she wanted to go and live in an assisted living home.

I think that is the best way to go. Let the parents pick a place to go, if that is what the whole family decides. It is the best of both worlds. Independent living with the comfort of somone there to help them out.

For anyone who has been reading my story. Tommorrow I will do chapter7 of GI Blues Song.

Have a nice day!

My Life 9/13/05

Published by User ImageJ Scott under meaningful meanderings

On the Other Hand…

Everything is pretty serious right now so today I am going to write about something that is not serious. Because I would like to be a little less serious today.

I received my free sampl of Pantane Pro V blonde expressions in the mail yesterday. I was really looking forward to trying this. My hair is a darker blonde and 100% natural. I would prove it to you but I can’t run the program becasue my computer is from the dinosaur age. Anyway, I really had my doubts. But it works. It delievers what it promises. They have got me as a customer. I know the shampoo and conditioner will probably run me about $10 a month but I think that is worth it.

I don’t like too many features about myself. I could lose some weight, I could tone my muscles. My eyes are gray but nothing that out of the ordinary. But there is one thing I love and that is my hair. I have always loved my hair. Right now it is down the midlde of my back and it is still blonde. Except over the years my hair went from a really light blonder to a dark blonde. I think that has something to do with age.

But I still love my hair so I think it is worth the money to make somehting you love beautiful.

Have a good hair day!

America the Beautiful v. Star Spangled Banner

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

It seems to m ein recent sporting event people have been sing America the Beautiful as opposed to the national anthem. Okay please correct me if I am wrong. I get only one channel which is CBS. So this weekend I watched the US Open Finals and the Pittsburgh v. Tennesee football game and in both instances the song sung was America the Beautiful.

I have been to a lot of sporting events in my time and the song was always our national anthem. The only thing I can think of is why people are choosing this song is the lines , “God shed his grace on thee, And crowned thy good with brotherhood.” Very nice lines, it tells me this that our country is beautiful, which it is and god blessed this country.

There is a reason the national anthem is the national anthem. It shows that the country can overcome everything and we still stand strong. Just like the flag. It is a symbol of our wonderful and free country. When Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, the flag was still waving amongst the rockets red glare and the bombs bursting in air. In the last line “For the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

It is a timeless anthem and in this pretty dark time in our country these words never rang truer.

Have a nice day!

September 11: 4 Years Later

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

Today is one of those days that many can remember what they were doing when the towers fell. I know what I was doing- I was just coming home after dropping my boyfriend’s dad off to pick up his motorcycle. It was sunny and warm for the time of day. I just finished a cigarette and pulled off the bypass when the music on the radio disappeared and the news came through. At first I wasn’t understanding what was going on. I rush home- barely make it through the door and turn on CNN.

I could not believe what was going on the first tower was on fire. It made me think of the movie The Towering Inferno. Well then I seen what happened- the second plane came in and crashed into the second tower. I was shocked. I was terrified. NYC is only a few hundered miles away from I live.

I remember when I first went ot the city to site see, I took a really great pic of the World Trade Center towers from the Liberty Island Ferry. The shot looked like it should be a postcard. I have not been to NYC since that time. For me seeing the WTC gone is something I don’t think will really seem real to me.

Enough digressing… Flight 93 came down in a field in Shanksville, PA. Shanksville is located near Somerset, PA. These place are about an hour’s drive from my house. I was really scared then. I was thinking, did they fly over me before they came down. What if they came down 20 minutes before, would I still be alive?

I called my mom and I found out everyone was okay. My dad travels to NYC a lot for business. She was happy to hear that I am okay.

That day rattled my life some. But I am happy to be alive and I am happy to be here.

I hope life is at least livable for those who lost their loved ones in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I hope things are at least okay.

May we find peace soon.

Maybe This Goodwill Can Continue

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

It is so nice to see many Americans helping others in their time of need, by donating money, food, and even their own homes. I was thinking that this trend should continue well past the rebuliding of the south and of people’s lives.

What I am talking about is the homeless Americans all through out the United States. Call me a dreamer or an idealist but I think maybe it could work. I know there are shelters and other services for the homeless but I think that we as a country can do more. For example, look at how giving we are to those in need. I think we should expand that to include the many homeless.

We should have fundraisers and set up an organization like the Red Cross and help the homeless. It is hard to get jobs if you don’t have an address or a phone number. We need to help these people too. They are Americans just like us. Many of them have been homeless for a long time. Many are children.

We should really continue our compassion and expand it. Someone needs to realize the true potential of American Love and compassion. I think this idea can work. In fact I know it can because look at everything that we Amereicans do that is good.

We are helping the victims of the tsunami rebuild their lives. We are helping the vicitms of Hurricane Katrina rebuild ther lives. It is time we start we rebuild lives on the homeless. Many of them want to get off the streets, we can help them if we put as much energy into helping them rebuild lives like we do for victims of natural disasters.

Happy Saturday!

Impeach Bush?

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

While reading other people’s blogs, I came across many that were in favor of impeaching President Bush. I do not think that is a good idea. Because if I know how my government works, wouldn’t Dick Cheney become the new president and Condoleeza Rice become the new vice-president. Do we, as Americans really want Cheney to be the new president?

There is only 2 years left in Bush’s term and then someone new will be in office. I am not a Bush supporter. I am registered democrat and I vote. However, in the last election I did vote for Bush becasue he at least could answer a question unlike Kerry who like answer in circles. Also at the time, I thought he was doing a good job.

People are pissed in Mississippi and Louisianna, they need something to blame but the same people that they are blaming are the same ones giving them help now such as $2,000 debit card amongst the social programs that many will have to use to get back on their feet. We all know what these social programs are welfare, food stamps, medical assistance and programs of that nature.

Why does politics have to brought into this horrible tragedy in the south? We as a country should realize that there were mistakes made. There is nothing that can be done about the past but what can be done is for the future.

Let’s stop playing the blame game. Let’s start thinking about the future for the people from the delta and look ahead to the future. Because as we all know, we learn from mistakes. No one is perfect. Not the president, not the pope, not Joe Schmoe on the street. Remember that we are all human. And humans by nature are constantly making mistakes.

Have a Nice Day

GI Blues Song Chapter 7

Published by User ImageJ Scott under gi blues song

Jason picks Daylene up early in the morning for their trip to New Orleans. Instead of taking the highway, he knows all the backroads. He travels them slow so they could enjoy the gulf coast.

“It is really beautiful here, Jason. I have never been this way before,” she says.

“I like going through the country side better. It drives my mom crazy because when I moved to Biloxi, it took us twice as long becasue I had to go on all state routes.”

“Where are you from?”

“West Virginia. I came to Mississppi because I always loved it there. So I got a job and joined the reserves and moved. best thing I ever did.”

“I’m glad you did, Jase.” She says.

After a couple of hours they arrive at their hotel in the French Quarter. They check and go up their room. He booked the suite which a had a small balcony leading out to Bourbon Street.

“Ever been here Day?”

“A few times me and my band sang down here. At this little club. You wanna go later? Maybe Jezz is there. She is an amazing singer. I haven’t seen in her a couple of years.”

“Sure we can.”

They take in the New Orleans sites hand in hand. People that see them walk together can tell that they are in love. Jason and Daylene dress up for dinner. He takes her to a swanky little French restuarant. He pours wine for her while gazing at her eyes through the candlelight. After dessert they head off the club. It is starting to get busy but they find a little table up front.

The music starts and he asks her to dance. He holds her close and they barley move through the dance floor. Just holding each other.

“Quite different from singing,” he says.

“I like listening to.”

Then a woman comes up behind Daylene, ” Holy Hell, look what the cat dragged in.”

“Jezz, I was hoping you’d be here.” They hug. “Jezz, this is Jason, my man. Jason this my good friend Jezz.”

“Hello ma’am.”

“No need to call me ma’am. Come on Day sing a song with me. Just like old times.”

“Do you mind, Jason?”

“You know I love hearing you sing.”

The two women get on stage and sing BB King song. The club erupts in applause after the two women are through. Jezz gives Daylene another hug, “I think he is waiting for you. Dont be a stranger.”

“I won’t. Thanks for the song. Come to Biloxi some time.”

She reunites with Jason, “Are you ready to go?”

“Only if you are.”

They come back to the hotel. Outside some people are playing instruments. Jason picks her up and lays her on the bed, gently kissing her. Slowly he undresses her. Daylene has been waiting for this moment since they met. Her body enlivens. Then suddenly she is lost in his passion.

The Blame Game

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

So who is to blame for the disaster in the gulf? FEMA? The state of Louisinanna? The Federal Government? The local government? Maybe even the people that live in the gulf region? Why is there such need to blame something? Will make it everyone’s lives easier? What will blaming someone or something do for anyone? What people should worry about instead of finding place for blame is the future of the gulf.

This should be a wake-up call for any state and persons that live in hurricane prone areas. Get plans made before something like this happens again. Better plans that are in place. A lot of people greatly afftected by this tragedy are poor people who can’t get up and leave. So there ought to be many evacuation plans set into place to help those live. Also check the structures and build them to withstand catergory 5 hurricanes.

There also should be plans in set for when the hurricane happens about the proper amount of time aid can start coming in. I am not saying run out while the hurricane is still going but get ready as soon as possible. Perhaps the next time something like this happens there would not be so much tragedy. We all know what happened this time I think the next time and I am sure there will be a next time- we know what to do.

Have a nice day.

PA Might Raise Their Minimum Wage

Published by User ImageJ Scott under news thoughts

There is good news from Harrisburg. The lawmakers are talking again about raising the minimum rage due to increase in cost of living and the sky-rocketing gas prices. Though there are some opposed to the raise becaus they say it is something for the federal government to do. What the bill proposes is that the first hike will make the 5.15 to 6.00 then by January 1 2006 6.75 and then by January 2007 7.15.

I think this a very good idea as I have posted before. I think the more people make the more they will spend. Which everyone will benefit more revenue for the state from sales tax and businesses will get more profit. Also abnother benefit for the average worker is an increase in their own wages. Some businesses off a little more than minimum wage to intince people to come work for them. If the minimum wage increases possibly those some businesses will increase their base rate. So for intance, Uni-mart which is a conveinence store chain in Central PA currently pays 6.00 starting. The company is a joke, I know I used to work for them. SO if minimum wage increases maybe their base pay will got almost 7.00.

I think everyone benefits. The companies already make plenty of money and they will keep making money. When I worked for Uni-Mart, I spent a lot of my paycheck at the company. So no one really is losing anything. This is one thing that the lawmakers in Harrisburg should do, it would be beneficial to everyone and make PA a really great state to work and live in.

Happy Day!

My Life 9/4/05

Published by User ImageJ Scott under meaningful meanderings

Hello one and all, sorry for not writing yesterday. The three of us went Mount Nittany Campground for the day. My boyfriend’s aunt and uncle is camping there and we decided to visit.

We would have loved to stay and camp but we had to get back because he has to work tommorrow morning. I love camping. I prefer tent camping because to me that seems like real camping.

When I was a kid we used to tent camp all the time. Right now it is kind of hard with Carrie. But I am thinking that next summer when she is 2 we can go tenting. My boyfriend’s dad has a small camper and we use that and it is okay but I still love the old tent.

There is nothing like hearing the rain fall on the canvas above your head or hearing the crickets and the occassional snap of the fire. I love the whole feel of just being pretty much one with nature. I find it peaceful. I get the best nights sleep when I am camping.

Well we are planning on going down the weekend before Halloween. The campground has trick or treating for the kids, a costume party and haunted mansion. We are planning on renting a cabin. Well why not we have a baby that sleeps in her playpen. Plus the cabins have heat. I am really looking forward to it. One last time to camp before next spring.
