GI Blues Song Chapter 15

Posted on | November 8, 2005 |

Daylene comes home after picking her dress up from the seamstress to hear the phone ringing. She picks it up and it is Jess.

“Hi there, Jason told me you all are gettin married in a couple of weeks. I wanted to let you know if you want to get married and have the reception at my house, you are more than welcome. Unless there’s goin to be a lot of people,” she says.

“Really Jess. That would be great. I ain’t gonna have too many people. Just my band, Dionne, Chantel and my friend Jezz from New Orleans. You know that’s if they come. Thank you so much. I wasn’t sure where we were gettin married at.”

“I also talked to my pastor today and he said he’d do the weddin for 100 bucks. If that’s too much we can find someone else.”

“No, I can afford that. Maybe we can get together in a couple of days and get some decorations and flowers and stuff. You want people to bring a covered dish? Dionne is whiz at baking cakes, I’ll ask her to make one for us,”Daylene says.

“Yeah that would help a lot. But we can talk about that on Wednesday. Is that okay with you?”

“Anytime after 3 and before 8.”

“Okay then, 4 my house.”

“Jess, I don’t how to repay you. I’ll see then, bye.”

“You don’t need to repay me. Jason is a very good friend of mine and I hope that we can be friends too. Bye.”

Daylene hangs up the phone and sits down. Dionne must have taken the kids out to the park. She enjoys the silence for a few minutes then goes over to the stereo and puts on Etta James on the turntable. She finds “At Last” and turns the speakers up. She turns around and sees Jason standing there. Daylene jumps back in a shock.

“That’s not good when you jump at seeing me,” Jason says, “I knocked but the music is up loud. You’re playin our song.”

She hugs him, “I just wasn’t expectin ya. You normally are at work. But I’m glad you’re here.”

“Well, I called in sick. There’s somethin I had to do today. Somethin that needs to be done proper.” He bends down on one knee and grabs both her hands, “I love you so much Daylene Chambers. I have never felt this way about anyone ever in my life. You are my destiny. ” He reaches in his pocket and pulls out a gold ring with one, small solataire diamond and slips the ring on her finger, “Daylene Chambers, will you be my wife?”

She starts crying, “Yes of course. I love you so much, Jason.”

He stands up and the kiss and dance to their song. They press each other’s bodies against one another so close that they appear as one.
