GI Blues Song Chapter 17

He carries her into their new home. She goes back into the bedroom to take off her wedding dress. He turns on some Ella Fitzgerald, lights the candles in the living room and pours champagne. She reappers wearing a silky robe. He smiles at her and she smiles back.

“Come on over Mrs. Mulrooney,” he says and pats the couch. She comes to him and he grabs her hands and gently kisses them.

“So, Jason, are we going to make this marriage official or not?” Daylene says to him.

“You better believe it,” he says as he pulls her on top of him.

They make love for the first time as husband and wife. When it is all over, she feels the warmth running between her legs. Daylene looks at him and smiles. She knows at that moment, what he is trying to do. She lays next to himon the floor. He embraces her, “You know Daylene, this was the best day of my life.”

“Mine too, “she says quietly. Daylene sees her life flashing before her. Everything is happening so quick, marriage and now maybe a family. Stop thinking like that Daylene scorns herself, you know many people don’t get pregnant the first time around. Oh yeah another voice in her says but it only takes one time.

He pours more champagne and gives her glass. “Is something botherin ya?”

“I don’t know if I’m ready to be a momma yet.”

“Oh, I thought you wanted this. You always said you want to be married before havin kids. I guess I was raised to think that the weddin night was for makin a baby.”

“Well I don’t know, maybe I ain’t. We’ll wait and see I guess.”

“Daylene, I am sorry. I don’t want our life to start like this,” he say to her and kisses her bare shoulders.

“I know, I did you tell that about wantin a family. I shoulda said somethin.”

They fall asleep on the floor. The next morning, Daylene wakes up to blood on the floor. She is happy that she more than likely isn’t pregnant. She gets up dresses herself and cleans the floor. When Jason comes in from picking up coffee and doughnuts, she tells him.

“That’s great, Cuz I was thinkin, we should wait a little while too.”

They hug and kiss deeply.
