The New Year

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

Oh yes, it is that time of year again when most of us make the resolutions. I have made them before. You know the normal stuff like exercise more, eat better, yadda yadda. Sure I follow through for January and then I stop.

There are people out there that make resolutions that they actually keep. Yet, I think that is a low percentage of the people. Some people make resolutions that are so easy to follow through. You know something like I plan to have fun this year. How hard can that be?

Well I am not making any resolutions this year. I figure if I want to change something about myself or my life I can do it at any time of the year. What makes New Years so special anyway. I suppose it was some old-fashioned tradition.

So HAPPY NEW YEARS everyone. I will be back in the new year.

Only 4 more days until the Penn State Nittany Lions win the Orange Bowl!!!

the eternal girl
singing in the sun and snow.
Mother Earth, Sky Father
I love you madly.

Swimming through bloody floods,
I never go with out you.

GI Blues Song Chapter 21

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

Daylene and Jason wake up early to go to West Virginia to spend Christmas with his mother. The drive to his childhood home is nice as they leave the warm south to a snowy north. They stop at a Wal-Mart just right over the border to buy her a winter coat and some gloves. It starts to snow again when they finally pull into the the mile long drive that his mother lives on. They stop the car and she is waiting for them on the doorstep. Grey smoke curls out of the brick chimney. The forest surrounds the home. They get out of the car and go up the house. Sandy hugs them both.

“I am so glad you are here. Daylene it is nice to see you again. Did you all have a good trip up?”

“Not too bad,” Jason says to her. The three of them go inside. Where Daylene is greeted by the smells of a roasting turkey. Sandy takes their coats.

“Jason, you and Daylene are gonna be in your room, so if you want to take your stuff up.”

Daylene enjoys her first turkey dinner ever. After dinner Daylene offers to wash the dishes up. Jason and Sandy go into the living room to sit by the fire and talk for awhile. After the dishes were done, Daylene joins them. Sandy gives them each a gift from under the tree.

“Mom your gift is from both of us,” Jason hands her a package.

Daylene opens hers and it is silver necklace with a music note hanging from it. “This is very beautiful Sandy. Thansk you so much.” She reaches over and hugs her.

“Well I know, you sing and all I thought you might like it.”

Jason gets a DVD player. Daylene and Jason gives her a bread maker.

“I am gonna make some bread in the mornin. Thank you so much,” Sandy says and kisses Jason and his wife.

They all retire to bed early. In his room, Daylene starts kissing him and rubbing him. Jason stops her, ” Not here, Day. Ma can hear everything. One time I had girl in here and she found out. Let’s just say that never happend again,” he whispers.

“You’re married now, it should be okay.”

“Drop it, we’ll be home soon.” he turns his back to her.

The next morning, Daylene wakes to find Jason out of bed. She smells frying bacon and brewing coffee. She puts on her robe and slowly walks downstairs. Jason and his mother are in the kitchen, talking loudly.

“She is not good for ya Jason. When I was down there all these guys were kissin her on the cheek and all. She would say they are just friends or whatever. I don’t trust her,” Sandy says.

“You don’t even know her. She is a great woman. I trust her completely. I love her.”

“No you don’t, you are in lust with her. She will cheat on ya. As soon as you go to war. She needs your money but needs her sex more than she needs you.”

“No, she won’t.”

“How the hell do ya know anyway? You anything about her past? She seems like she was a slut. And you know the sayin once a slut always a slut.”

Daylene comes in the kicthen in tears. Sandy looks away. Jason looks at her. ” Come one, Day we are going home. If you ain’t welcome then neither am I.”

“Jason, please don’t go,” his mother yells to him as he and wife leave the home.

My Life 12/26/05

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

~ Hello everyone. I hope the holiday was good for you. I finally got the new Harry Potter book. I know I am late since it came out in July. I have already started it though I don’t have too much time to read it will take me a while. I am a speed reader so it won’t take me months to read.

~ This is in responce to a comment left on the post Builiding a Fence: Seperating Mexico from America
I know there are some Americans who enjoy having illegal immigrants be their help, however an American can do the job just as well. Americans can be paid under the table as well. Maybe a fence is drastic but at least it is something. Better than no idea at all. We do need to do something about immigration. As I know it it is harder to go live in other countries than it is to come here in America.

~Tomorrow another chapter of the story.

Take care and I will see you on the flipside.

Christmas

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

It is that time of year again, the snow is falling, people filling the stores and spending tons of money, ribbons and wrapping paper, holiday parties, and family togetherness. The people are nicer, unless you are in retail. It is Christmas time. This is the best time of the year regardless of what holiday you celebrate.

For the Christians, this is Jesus’ birthday, the birth of the Messiah. Although some scholars believe Jesus could have born in April or October. We don’t really know things get lost in translation or lost in time. There are some scholars who thinks that December 25 was chosen to convert the pagans to Christianity. If you don’t know today is Yule and it falls on the Winter Solstice, 4 days before the supposed birth of Christ.

Many traditions of Christmas has pagan roots such as the Christmas Tree, Santa Claus and decorating the home. There is much debate nowadays about saying Merry Christmas because of the religious conotations. Is Christmas really about Christ anymore? Maybe for some people it is but for the majority it is about the traditions of gift giving and trimming the home and togetherness. That is what a holiday really should be about anyway.

I believe that Jesus Christ is a real person other historical evidence supports that fact. Since there is so much about Christmas that has nothing to do with Jesus Christ, what does saying Merry Christmas really mean? To me it means Happy December 25. So I will continue to say it and I am not offended when I hear it.

Christmas is different now than it was in the early days of Christmas. To me, Christmas means all that above. And for whatever reason the tradition was made and will continue this way. It is nice to look forward to something at the end of the year, when winter is on our doorsteps and it is so bleak and cold.

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays

GI Blues Song Chapter 20

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

Daylene wakes Saturday morning to a knock at the front door. She puts on her robe and answers the door.
It is Sandy, Jason’s mom.

“Hi, Daylene. I know this is surprise but I wanted to come down and get to know ya. You know when Jason is away for the weekend.”

“Sure come in,” Daylene says and lets her in. Sandy sits her suitcase down and sits in the kitchen.

“I hope I didn’t wake you. Jason told me you are a singer.”

“No, I was already awake. You want some coffee?” Daylene asks while getting the pot ready.

“Sure, I ‘ll take some.”

After the coffee was done, Daylene sits down across from her mother-in-law. They smile at each other.

“Uh,” Daylene coughs, ” It is a good thing you came down this weekend cuz I have off tonight. See, the club has been holdin a talent contest and tonight are the finals. Someone is gonna get a 5,000 dollar prize. Maybe if you want later you can come along with me and listen to them. That way you can see where I work and where Jason and me met at.”

“Sure sounds good. Look I don’t normally bother Jason too much. You know he jsut called me and said he was getting married in 2 weeks. I just came down this weekend because I just wanted to get to know you. Please don’t think I overprotective or anything.”

“Well I am glad you are here. I want to get to know you too. Thanks again for the necklace to wear.”

The woman spend their day shopping for Jason for Christmas. Sandy treats her to supper at Red Lobster. Then the women come back and get ready for the club. They leave shortly before 8 and Daylene drives them to the club. The place is filling quickly and they find a table close to the stage.

“Hey Joe is working tonight. I want ya to meet him.” Daylene says and they go the bar.

“Hey there sweetheart,” Joe says and kisses her on the cheek, ” You come here on a Saturday night when you got off?”

“This here is Sandy, my mother-in-law I wanted her to come see this place. Sandy this is a good friend of mine and the bartnder, Joe.” The two shake hands.

“You’ve a got great daughter-in-law ain’t no one like her.” He makes them screwdrivers. Daylene reaches for her wallet. “You know sweetie, no charge for you or your lovely mother-in-law.”

“Thanks.”

They sit down at the table. “He seems very friendly. He likes you a lot.”

“We used to be together. I think he loved me but I did not love him so that’s why we are still friends,” Daylene tells her.

Building a Fence- Seperating Mexico from the US

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

I think it is time to do something about our borders, especially from Mexico to the United States. Everyone in this country knows that illegal aliens from Mexico has been an on-going problem for years and it is time to take action. We are afraid of terrorists coming into this country and wreaking havoc but what are we doing about it?

Here is a thought to mull over- if an uneducated Mexican can cross into America with no problems then who is to say that an educated terrorist can not do the same? The terrorists are not stupid and I am pretty positive they watch American news, they know where the weak spot is. If we know, they know. After all the 9/11 bombers came in from CANADA.

So one idea, which many think is to extreme is to build a fence along the Mexican/American border. This is a good idea. Only if this fence comes with watchtowers with border patrol stationed so they can’t climb the fence. As I understand it, China built the Great Wall of China to keep the Mongolians out.

Now before, I get hate mail. I am all for people from any country coming to live in the US because this a pretty great country. But get the proper papers in place and enjoy life over here. The government should know who is coming into this country. They know who is a resident already. It is a way to protect ourselves from another attack like 9/11.

Case in point, an illegal alien from Mexico, Miguel Padilla, shot three men in an Altoona nightclub because they wouldn’t let him where is ball cap inside. He killed those men and now he is standing trial for capital murder which in this state means the death penalty. What makes this worse is that he was already in trouble once before. And he was not deported.

Perhaps, if the border was secure this would have never happened. There is nothing wrong with protecting your home. We put fences up in our yards to protect our kids, we should do the same with the borders.

Celebrating 300 Years

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

I don’t have much to report today. SO here it goes:

~ For those of who don’t know and shame on you if don’t. One of America’s beloved stateman, thinker, inventor, and lover of the turkey, Ben Franklin is turning 300 today. A big bash is going on the birthplace of freedom, Philadelphia, PA. I went to Franklin Museum many times. I love it there. I think the musuem really celebrates his visions. Outside in a sealed vault are the ruins of the house that he lived in.

~I received my free DVD today. Last Best Chance that is. I have not watched it yet but I will within a few days. If you want your own copy go here: www.lastbestchance.com

~Work is going good. Enough said. I am happy to be there and getting out and talking to other folks.

I may or may not post tomorrow. Another storm coming my way. Why is that I always have to close the store which is midnight when there is a snowstorm coming is beyond me. Except this one is supposed to have ice with it as well. Oh yeah, lucky us. I thought I moved away from NH but it seems like the real snowy weather follows me everywhere.

Have a nice day everyone and drive safe.

My Life 12/12/05

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

Well I am Sudoku retard. I really am. For those who do not know what the hottest puzzle craze is I will tell you.
You have 9x 9 grid and with in the grid you have 3×3 blocks marked off. OKay if I haven’t lost you yet. There are numbers placed randomly in the box from 1-9. OKay here are the rules you have to place a number 1-9 ggoing across and going down and filling in the 3×3 box but you can’t repeat numbers in the row or across.

I know what a crappy explanantion. Google it and once you see it you will know what I am talking about it. I heard about this puzzle long before I ever played it. I got Friday’s paper and in the Weekend Life edition there it was. Begging me to solve the puzzle. I am glad there was an answer key because I sure as hell needed it. I maybe got some of the answers myself.

I am word puzzle gal. I love words and letters. Numbers and I don’t get along and we never had. Let’s just say counting is not always right on with me. I was good at math but the higher you go in math the less numbers there is and thus the better I am. But I am determined to master the Sudoku puzzle. I am sure there are some strategies. For more info go here www.sudoku.org then I am sure there are sites where you can play for free.

Have a puzzling day!
