GI Blues Song Chapter 18

Daylene is still worried about the slim chance of being pregnant. She knows why, too. She is afraid that she just made the biggest mistake of her life. Only a short time ago she was a happy go lucky girl and now she is married to a man that wants a child already. She knows what she has to do. Daylene looks over at Jason drinkning his coffee. She smiles at him and he smiles back.
“I have some errands to do,” she stands up, “I’ll be back before your mom comes over.”
“You want me to come along?” he asks.
“No it’s okay.”
She leaves and drives herself to the free clinic. She wants a couple of hours and then nurse calls her name. She is seated inside a nice clean room when Terese, a doctor’s aid that daylene has dealt with in the past many times, comes into the room.
“Hey there stranger, what can I do for ya today?” Terese asks.
” I am kinda afraid I might be pregnant. Cuz last night I had sex and the rubber broke. Can I have that pill, you know the one you have to take as soon as possible.” Daylene says and turns her head away.
“I heard you got married yesterday.” Terese says.
“I did but ya know he had a really cute friend and we met up before I got married. Ya know one last time before the ceremony. I just couldn’t help myself.” Daylene explains.
Terese smiles, “Yeah I know what you sayin. I was the girl the groom had before he went up and got married. I ‘ll get you the script. I don’t want your marriage starting off bad.”
“You’re a lifesave Terese.”
A few minutes later she comes in with prescription. Daylene takes the paper and gets up. ” Hey Day, take care of yourself. And good luck with the hubby. Maybe I’ll see ya soon when you get pregnant.”
Daylene fills the prescription and takes it right away. She lights a cigarette and listens to the radio. She thinks about what she was going to tell Jason where she was all morning. She finishes her smoke and lights another while turning the key for the car. Daylene is already feeling a lot better. When she gets back home Jason’s mother is already there.
“Hey sweetheart get everythin done ya need to?” Jason asks her.
“Yeah, I needed to get my dresses cleaned and they were still at the club and Dionne’s house and all. That is why it took me so long. How are ya doin? I got that necklace for ya in the bedroom.”
“Mom wants to take us for a fancy lunch. Why doncha get fixed up a little bit.” Jason tells her.
“Okay , just give me a few.” Daylene says.
