Groundhog’s Day

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

I know this is early but I was thinking about it today. On Feburary 2, is when the Punxstawney Phil predicts the weather. It actually is on the same day as Candlemas. Candlemas is a pagan holiday welcoming spring.

Well when I was at Penn State Main Campus, I joined the pagan club on campus called Silver Circle. Since we are only an hours drive to Punxstawney we decided to rent a van and go see the groundhog to celebrate Candlemas. We left State College 2 am and arrived in Punxsy at 3 or so. We had to park in some grocery store parking lot to get catch the school bus to Gobbler’s Knob. Which by the way you have to pay for so the ground hog can eat or something.

It was a party at the Knob. They had music so we danced and had a good time. Now since I was little I always wanted to see the groundhog. It must be a PA thing or something. Anyway… it was time for Phil to make his debut. The handler pulls him out of the stump. The other man from the inner circle lays 2 rolled up scrolls down on top of the tree stump. Then Phil gets put down and he goes and noses a scroll. Whatever scroll he picks is either he sees his shadow or not. What a dissappointment. I honestle believed he pokes his head and sees his shadow or not. I think he did not see his shadow that year.

Afterwards it started snow. And stupid me wore open toed sandals. But it was a great memory and I am glad that went to see the groundhog.

Happy Groundhog’s Day!! Happy Candlemas!!

My Life 1/30/06

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

Hello. Hello. I know it has been a very long time. I posted the story I submitted for the contest. I did not win this time. Click on the link on the side to read the intro and the winning entry. I do have 7 more chance to win. Lets hope something good happens.

I have been very busy lately and that is why I have not been online. But that is life isn’t it? It is a good thing to be busy. Sometimes I feel that helps my writing when I got a lot of other stuff going on. It is almost inspirational.

Anyway I have not watched that movie yet (Last Best Chance). I will get around to it sometime.

Okay folks, see you on the flip side when ever that may be.

GI Blues Song Chapter 23

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

The 2 weeks leading up to his departure was sad but happy. Daylene and Jason make love every night. He goes with her to the club every night. The last night they will spend together is very sad. It is coming to close to the end of her set, she sees Jason sitting at his regular table smiling at her. She feels the tears well up in her eyes. She whispers to Felix to plat “At Last.” The song her first requested, the song he asked her to marry him and their wedding song.

“This last song is for my husband who’ll be leavin for Iraq tomorrow. I love ya baby.” She starts singing the song and the tears stream down her face. She movces off the stage and embraces him still singing but the words are becoming muffled by her tears. She barely finishes the song, whatever audience is left applaudes. She turns off the mic and Jason and her leaves.

They get back to their home. Jason puts on the radio.

“I’ll miss ya so much Day. I can’t believe I’m goin. I know I have to. I’ll write every chance I get,” he says to her.

She is crying again, “I’m so scared Jason. I’m scared that you’ll never come back again.I wish this night would never end.”

He sits next to her on the couch and puts his arm around her. He gently kisses her cheek. “Sweetheart, I’ll come back in 6 months. That’s all I’m supposed to be gone for. 6 months, sweeheart. It will go by so quick.”

He starts to kiss her and she kisses him back. Slowly they undress each other. Kissing each other softly all over. Her tears slow to nothing and they make love one last time. They fall asleep on the couch.

Jason wakes her at 7 the next morning and she drives him to the base. Jess is already there with Paul. A voice calls to Jason, it is Sandy.

“What is she doin here?” Jason asks Daylene.

“She’s your ma. I thought you’d wanna say bye to her to. I called her the other day and told her when you were ya leavin.”

“Thank you Daylene.” Sandy comes up and hugs him tight. Then, suprisingly she hugs Daylene.

“Daylene, thanks for letting me say good bye, “Sandy tells her.

“Well ladies, I would love to say and chat but it is time for me to go.” He hugs his mother, “Ma, ntry to be nice to Daylene. She needs ya right now.”

“I love you Jason, please write. Be safe and come home soon.” They hug again and they kiss each other on the cheek.

He turns to Daylene. She is crying. He wipes her tears from her face, he grabs her hands and looks into her eyes.”Daylene. Sweet Daylene, remember when you’re feelin sad that I love you more than anything in the world. I have since our fist night together.”

“I can’t believe you’re leaving. I love you so much Jason. I’ll miss ya.”

“I’ll miss ya to.” He kisses her deeply. The kiss seems to last forever but not long enough for pulls away “Goodbye Daylene, I love you.”

“Good bye Jason I love you too.” She says as tears stream down her face. He picks up his duffel bag and heads out.

Jess comes over to them crying and the three women hug and cry on each other and watched their loved ones leave.

Super Bowl XL Detroit Steel City

Published by J Scott under news thoughts

Living in Central PA one can’t help but get excited about the Pitsburgh Steelers going to the Super Bowl. The team was very close last year but they lost against the New England Patriots. The black and gold runs proud here in my area. I am rooting for them too. Only having CBS I watched many Steelers game most of them anyway.
Sure they had a mid-season slump. Some key players were hurt but the team bounced back. I thought for sure they wouldn’t beat the Colts but they did. And I was sure Denver would move onto the Super Bowl. The Steelers got it together played some football and won their ticket to the Super Bowl.
The Steelers will win the Super Bowl as well. I would put my money on them to win. The game is going to be tough. Because every team brings out their best when there is a big game. It is going to be a tough game against the Seattle Seahawks. The game will more than likely go into overtime if not more than one but the Steelers will come out victorious by a field goal. We will have to see next Sunday.
Go Steelers!!

My Life 1/15/05

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

I am very excited The Centre Daily Times, the local newspaper, is running their short story contest again. They start off a story and readers of the paper submit one chapter at a time. I tried it last year and for whatever reason I was never selected but that is life. I think maybe my story was a little r rated or something. Probably more like they had a vision for the story and I did not fit into their vision. But since the contest just started maybe my luck will change.

I put the link for the paper up. You can play sudoku, check out a blog written by a man stationed in Iraq from this area. And of course news. I really enjoy this paper. It is much better then The Altoona Mirror and just as good as The Morning Call, a newspaper from Allentown, PA. SO check out the link and wish me luck. I do get 8 chances to win so lets keep our fingers crossed.

My Life 1/13/06

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

Hello everyone, I know long time no see. I have been working a lot lately and I just can’t seem to squeeze time for my blog right now. Maybe I’ll try a little harder.

Anyway, I finished the new Harry Potter book. It was a shocker. It seems like it to me the older Harry gets the more mature the actual story becomes. This might be a young adult series but it has some real dark stuff to it. I like it because of the story. I don’t always need to read things with a deeper meaning. Sometimes I just a like a good story.

I am getting much better at solving Sudoku. I can actually solve the ones that come in the paper. I like these puzzles better then the number fill in because there is only one way to solve a suduko. Anyway, I am hooked I can see why they are the new puzzle craze in America.

Okay take care everyone and I will be back soon.

GI Blues Song Chapter 22

Published by J Scott under gi blues song

The drive back to Biloxi is quiet. Jason says nothing to Daylene and she really doesn’t want to talk anyway. About 3 am they pull inot the driveway and go inside. Jason goes to the fridge and grabs them both a beer and sits next to her on the couch. She takes a drink and looks at him. Her eyes are red and puffy from crying.

“Jason, are you really going to war?”

“Yes.”

“When were you gonna tell me? We’re married ya know.”

“Day, I found out right before we left. I told ma cause you know I won’t see her before I leave. I wanted to tell you when we got back.”

She drinks some more and blows her nose, “When do ya leave?”

“Couple of weeks. I took time off from work. I want to be with you everyday before I go.” He pulls her closer to him and hugs her tight. She sobs into his shoulder.

“Please don’t go, Jason. What if… What if somethin happens?”

“Don’t talk like that. I am gonna be okay. I promise you, in 6 months time I’ll be back here in no time back with you. There ain’t nothin I can do bout it, sweetheart. I’ll write you whenever I can.”

She puts her head on his shoulder, “Jason, I love you we’ve only been married for a little while. This isn’t fair.”

“I know but you always knew this could happen. Look I’m sorry about what ma said. It don’t matter to me much what she says I know what I feel. I wish we didn’t part this way though but that’s life I guess.”

They finish their beers and picks her up in his arms and carries her to the bedroom and lays her on the bed. He lays next to her. He puts his arms around her and they fall asleep.

Orange Bowl

Published by J Scott under lion lowdon

On January 3, 2006 two teams want to be the Orange Bowl Champions but there can only be one victor and that is ( no suprise here) is Penn State.

In triple overtime Penn State scores to win the game at 26-23.

Perhaps next year, I will be writing about the Rose Bowl. I think that they can definitely make it there next year.
Lion Lowdown will be back next August at the start of a new and exciting Penn State Football season and the road to the Rose Bowl.

See you next season and
CONGRATULATIONS PENN STATE ON THE ORANGE BOWL!!!!

My Life 1/2/06

Published by J Scott under meaningful meanderings

~I hope everyone had a good New Years. I had a pretty good one. My parents came up and gave my daughter her snowsuit. Now all I need is snow. It is all melting here and it looks like it is going to be in 40’s all this week- not snowing weather. What are you going to do, though? Oh yeah, my Wawa coffee. I love their coffee, so my parents brought me plenty to make at home.

~New Years Eve, I stayed home but I got a little toasty. I was in the mood this year. So the night wasn’t too bad.

~I will not be posting much this week because I am going to be working a lot. So that is good for me and bad for you all. I will post the next chapter of he story tomorrow sometime and I the Orange Bowl wrap up sometime this week maybe I’ll squeeze it in somewhere, if not look for it Saturday. But I will be back Saturday.

Have a dry day.
