Personal Responsibility

I watched 60 Minutes earlier tonight and there was a story about a man crusading against the “nanny society.” Damn, if I can remeber his name but they called him Dr. Evil on the program. He believes America is heading for the “nanny society;” where every where you look there are ads or information that tells you what not to do. Since when we can not make our own minds up?

I have talked about this before but perhaps it should be said over and over again until people stop and think for themselves. It is odd, that this very day I read in a column in today’s Centre Daily Times addessing that many teachers at the univeristy level are babying the students. For example if they university makes students 8 am Friday classes, they seem to drink less or not all on Thursday night. Yeah whatever, I had a Friday 8 am class and I did drink sometimes on Thursday nights. I aced the class by the way.

You maybe thinking what is the point. Here it is personal responsibility and where did it go? Anymore it seems like if you are obese it because Mickey D’s used some wonderful propoganda to make you desire the big Mac and fries. In reality, no one forced you to eat the supersized meal. Ronald McDonald didn’t tie you to the chair and stuff the food down your mouth.

Personal responisibilty. If teachers want to baby their students, when will they be grown-ups? If you want to succeed in life you make the choices and take the responsibilty for them. That’s what it means to be an adult.

If you want to smoke, drink beer while you are gorging on a large pizza and hot wings then so be it. It is your life, you make the choices, you pay the consequences or revel in reward. This is America, the land of the free, but it seems as though Big Brother is not only watching us but they are trying to control everyone’s thoughts.

What would America be like with out freedom of choice;a freedom we all say we love and cherish with that freedom also comes with personal responsibilty.
