Play Me That Forgotten Song

Music, is one of those things that can keep every insignificant moment in your life and make it memorable. Obviously, music plays a huge part in huge steps in our life. Every time, I hear “I Will Remember You” I always think of my prom. But like scent music also holds those small memories in some little filing cabinet in the brain.
While I was driving one day a song that I haven’t heard in years came on the radio. It was “You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party” by the Beastie Boys and just out of the blue I remembered something just from that song. In my sophomore year at Penn State, I joined the SGA, because I went to a satellite campus; every month the commonwealth campuses’ SGA got together at University Park for meetings.
It was a weekend in October, a bunch of us SGA officers went up to University Park, we had our little meeting. After the meeting, we watched the tail end of the Penn State game on TV since they were away. Penn State won. We were so ecstatic. We just had to go downtown and celebrate. At the time, none of us were 21 but we weren’t looking for parties just something. Maybe some hooting on the street or something so we felt like we belonged.
I drove my car and that aforementioned song came on the radio. The president of SGA turned the radio all the way up and we yelled and carried on as we drove to downtown State College. We felt like celebrated with everyone else. We get to downtown and park the car and walk the streets. Nothing was going no one causing a ruckus. In fact it was quiet. So we decided on Subway for dinner.
At the end of the meal we are standing in the side street in front of a plate glass window. I don’t really remember the conversation but I took the other half of my foot long and I smacked the president with it. I think I smacked him to hard because the sandwich flew out the plastic and hit the window. The window didn’t break but there was mustard and mayo and some tomatoes smeared all down it though.
We all looked at each other and took off. We got back into the car and laughed about it. That was our excitement, I didn’t mean to have the sandwich hit the window. Needless to say, we drove back to the hotel and that was that.
I pretty much forgotten all about that incident until I heard that song. One song brought back a whole night of memories. The little memories that enhance all our lives in one way or another.
