If Girls Played Football…

Posted on | January 30, 2008 |

If women played football would you watch? If there were professional women’s teams and they had a Super Bowl would  make sure your friends come over and have a grand party?

I wonder about why women’s sports aren’t as popular as men’s. Women, in my opinion share the same passion and dedication to the sport as their male counterparts but are not as  recognized as often as the males. For instance, I can name more NBA players than I can WNBA. I think Philly has an WNBA team but that is all I know about it for the most part.

Look at Penn State basketball. The Lady Lions are having a much better season then the men’s team but for some reason the men’s team has more coverage.

Of course when women are doing gymnastics, or swimming, cheerleading or ice skating they are given more attention then the male counterparts. I watched the winter Olympics one year and I caught the USA women’s hockey team. They had just as much guts and slamming each other as the men do.

If sports are patronized by men more than women then why aren’t they interested in watching in women’s sports? If you love a sport, does it matter what the gender of the team is? I love ice hockey and I will watch it if it were a women’s team or men’s. But maybe I am just biased.

Have a nice night

I somehow believe that if women played football the game would take on a whole new meaning. Not sure if it would be a good one or bad either.

Although they are a few underground leagues where women do play football, just in lingere haha.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m just used to watching male team sports but it never seems as interesting when women play. I think maybe part of it is because the men’s teams are always “bigger” in terms of money and infamy.

I saw some womens boxing… it was scary! In mens boxing, they look at each other like they want to beat the crud out of each other, but in womens they look like they want to kill each other, for reals! In mens there is focus, control of strength, and fierce resistance of going down. In womens I just saw a raging fury that scared the heck outta me and I wanted to hide from the television! Alls I know is I’d never box a woman for reasons stated above (besides the fact that it would involve hitting a woman).

On the other hand, watching my sister play Wii Boxing made me want to laugh my face clean off my head, but that is another subhect…
