Afterthoughts on Maestro

Published by User ImageJ Scott at 7:50 pm under weekly shorts

Hello all, the other day I posted the next awesome  edition of Weekly Shorts titled, Maestro. This is a story more  for children as it features a chicken with the heart of a pianist. Final word count 1127. Actually it doesn’t seem as long typed because there is not much dialog.

In my opinion, writing for children is difficult. As of now, I can write stories appropiate for 5-6 year olds. This could be attributed to the fact I read my daughter books that may fall into this category. I struggle with writing for older kids. Such as  the assignments on Helium they are looking for 6th grade reading level.

When I was in 6th grade I read Stephen King and other adult type books. I have no idea what is appropiate for tweens. What are the limits when does it become less of a tween story and more of an adult story. The only thing I can come up with is the Harry Potter series that fall into this category.

What is next for Weekly Shorts? A pyschological thriller, a couple science fictions (one using a Men in Black type of thing) and a horror western. And for now that is all but you can change that by visiting the Weekly Shorts page and leaving your most awesome idea yet!

Have a nice night.
