Firefly Chapter 8

Posted on | March 13, 2008 |

Feeling bad about all the changes in the girls’ lives, Bet took her money and bought them a car. It wasn’t anything special, just an okay looking 90 Ford Taurus. It only cost $200. The girls walked home after work and found Beth sitting on the car.

“Aunt Beth, what happened to your car?” Carrie asked.

“My car’s fine. I bought this for you girls.”

“Really?” Ray asked.

“It ain’t much but its wheels.”

Carrie and Ray hugged their aunt, “thank you so much Aunt Beth.” Carrie said, “I’ll pay you back.”

“No, it’s a gift.” Beth handed them each a set of keys. The set for Carrie was pink and the set for Ray was black. “Go on girls, I know you want to test it out”

They got it in, “I can’t believe we got a car,” Carrie exclaimed.

“Maybe it’s so we can get away from Fred, “Ray joked.

“Who cares? Where do you want to go?”

“I don’t care just go. You drive; I pick the music. Hey we can get EJ to put in a cd player.”

“Yeah all right.” Carrie started the car and drove slow to the stop sign. Once they were out of view, she sped up. They drove through town and stopped at the gas station where Bryce worked. He was working when they went in and paid for the gas. Looking over the car, he shared in their excitement. Carrie asked for a pack of smokes and Bryce shot her a look saying, “if he got caught his ass was grass.” He handed her the smokes and said that he would call them later.

Carrie lit up and Ray called EJ. After picking him up, Carrie drove to their special spot.

“Nice place,” EJ said.

“We found it when we were kids,” Ray said.

They sat by the creek and EJ, prepared for everything, pulled out the weed and papers, “this calls for a celebration.” He lit up and passed to Ray who took a big hit.

“Carrie?” she asked.

“None for me.”

Carrie liked drinking much better and smoking cigarettes. Finally, they had a car now they could see Bryce more. When she thought of Bryce, she thought of the sex. In her mind, when Bryce kissed and made love to her, she felt free from her sister. Since Bryce came into their lives, Ray became more detached, mentally, that is from Carrie. She didn’t even know where to start or what to ask but she hoped Ray would talk to her.

Their body told Ray Carrie was thinking of Bryce. Sure, she liked Bryce and having sex with him only because she orgasmed. Since Bryce, Ray felt more alone and desperately wanted to feel the same thing Carrie felt - love. She took another hit and wondered again if Carrie would help her find a girlfriend. Ray noted that it was strange that Carrie was most attracted to guys like her and Ray was most attracted to women like Carrie.

“I want to ask you girls something,” EJ said breaking the quiet.

“What’s that?”

“Do you really want to know what happened the other night?”

“Yeah, why not,” Carrie said.

“I got it out of Bryce. I told you sex because I remembered sex with Bryce. I had sex with you guys too.”

“What?” they both said.

“I don’t remember much. Bryce remembered everything. I’m so sorry.”

“You had sex with Bryce? I’m his girlfriend, he cheated on me,” Carrie screamed.

“You had sex with us,” EJ corrected

“I thought you were gay,” Ray interjected.

“I am gay. But it’s not like I haven’t had sex with women before,” he replied, “and since we were all together no one cheated on anyone. Bryce is down with it. He wants to do it again. I told him I am not interested.”

Carrie pouted, “I feel like a slut.”

“Carrie, you read about this all the time,” Ray said, “what’s the difference?”

“I would never do it in real life. Just cause I read something doesn’t mean anything”

“I am so sorry, Carrie,” EJ apologized.

“Let it go Carrie, it’s over with,” Ray said.

“Why’d you tell us?” Carrie asked.

“Because what kind of friend am if I didn’t tell you?”

“Whatever, EJ,” Carrie shot back.

“Carrie, calm down. It’s in the past let it go. We had a fun night,” Ray consoled.

She said nothing.

“Carrie, talk to me,” her sister pleaded.

“I’m not in the mood to talk to either one of you,” she said. Carrie drove EJ home. He wished them a good night but Carrie sped off.

“Pull over,” Ray ordered and Carrie listened. “What the fuck is your problem?”

“You don’t see a problem with this picture?” Carrie’s phone rang. It was Bryce. She shut the phone off.

“I thought you liked EJ,” Ray started.

“I do.”

“So what’s got your panties in a bunch?”

“I don’t know, really. I let us becomes sluts. I wanted to try sex so bad, I really stopped caring about everything. We got messed up and then bam we’re in an orgy. What will happen next time?”

“I don’t know,” Ray mumbled.

“How do you feel about it, Ray?”

“I got off that is all that matters.”

“I can’t believe Bryce and EJ allowed that to happen,” Carrie said, “especially EJ”

“We were fucked up, Carrie.”

“So that’s it then? Our excuse, we didn’t know what we were doing because we were fucked up?”

Ray knew Carrie and she never cursed, she was pissed. Carrie put the car and drove home.

“Hey girls, supper is ready,” Beth said.

“Not hungry,” Carrie said. Ray grabbed a bag of chips.

“Hey the freaks took my chips!” The oldest son, Brian yelled.

They went upstairs. Brian burst threw their door.

“Their mine,” he sad and snatched them away.

Carrie took the bag back and tossed them on the bed, “listen you little punk. If you’re so worried go have your daddy buy you another bag. Get out.”

The kids eyes widened and took off. Each grabbed their laptop. Carrie put on her headphones.

A message waited Ray when she signed on Ray you know I love you and Carrie. She mad?Yeah see threw out that brat Brian. Never seen her like that

Carrie’s ignoring Bryce too. He called but keeps going to voice mail he wrote.

I don’t know. Carrie’s really pissed. Does he really like her for her or because we are a we?Don’t know EJ replied. We broke up because his fantasies didn’t really mesh with mine He’s a little twisted when it comes to sex.Are you upset with what happened Ray asked

Fuck no.

Fred opened the door and ripped off Carrie’s headphones. He tossed their laptops. “You girls are not my responsibility. The only reason you are here is because of Beth. Once you mutated freaks turn 18, you will have to find another place to live. You will not take other people’s food. Do you hear me?”

“You know Fred shut the fuck up. You’re just a regular stupid asshole,” Ray said.

Fred raised his hand and slapped Carrie across the face only because she was closer to his rage. A hand print formed on her face. Her tears slid over the red mark.

“My house, my rules. You’re grounded to this room,” Fred said and slammed the door.

“Carrie are you okay?” Ray asked.

“I’ll be okay.”

“I fucking hate that guy,” Ray said.

“Do you think he’s telling the truth about kicking us out?”

“I don’t doubt it.”

“What are we going to do?” Carrie asked.

” I don’t know, we’ll figure it out when it happens,”Ray answered.

“Yeah okay that’s only months away.”

They retrieved their computers. EJ wrote Ray a bunch of messages.

Sorry Fred happened Ray wrote and told him everything that transpired. Carrie tapped her on the shoulder, “I need a drink.” Carrie enjoyed drinking it made her free. Her head was full of worry. She needed to be free.

“What kind of drink?”

“I wonder if wee can get out,” Carrie answered.

Ray knew what she meant and asked if she wanted to go to EJ. Carrie said she didn’t care. Ray wrote to EJ and told him they were coming over.

They lived on the second floor and looked out the window. Deciding to climb out the window onto the porch roof then wiggle down to the banister, they made their escape. Not wanting the extra risk of taking the car, Carrie and Ray walked to EJ’s. Ray knocked on his door and he noticed Carrie’s face.

“He smacked you?” EJ said.

“It was meant for Ray but I was closer.”

He got some ice and put it on her. “So what’s been going on?”

“Who knows? Fred wants us out when we turn 18,” Ray answered..

“I don’t think Aunt Beth knows,” Carrie said.

“What are you going to do?”

“Don’t know.”

Carrie polished off a beer and EJ gave her another, “we can live together. I’ll talk to my parents . Maybe they’ll help us pay for an apartment.”

“Really thanks,” Ray said.

They talked into the night about how great it would be to live together. Carrie thought it was the best idea she heard in awhile.

Thanks for the comment Jenn. I truly appreciate it. That color you mentioned does sound very familiar.

The firefly series is very nice by the way, I enjoy reading them quite alot. You should maybe compile them into a book of some sort.
