One More Time

I know it’s getting late
but can’t the sun wait?
for one more dive
one more splash,
one more lap?
As always I’m the first one in and the last to go.
With daydreams of who I’ll be many tomorrows from now
when submergence in water, inviting like sun filled days
for play
will be a long forgotten pleasure,
one that I will always long for when I am old.
For I am not lonely among the calmness of the pool.
I know it’s late
but can’t the sun wait?
for one more dive,
one more splash,
one more lap?
Because tomorrow may bring rain.
