One More Win and a Game Experience
Posted on | September 7, 2008 |
Hello all, the Nittany Lions trounced on Oregon with a final score of 45-14. We already knew they would! Next week, expect another win as the Nittany Lions go to Syracuse. My prediction will be Penn State 56-6.
I was lucky enough to find out Terry from Plot Dog Press went to the PSU v Oregon game. I asked him to write about it. With out further ado, enjoy the game first hand…
Happy in the Valley
The Beavers at Beaver Stadium
It isn’t a tradition yet; I have come to a Penn State home football game to hang with my friend only two years in a row. If the Ocean is BLUE and WHITE, Beaver Stadium was pretty calm and beautiful in the pre-game for the “match up” between the Nittany Lions and the Beavers of Oregon State. It was the first meeting ever for the two teams, there was no air of rivalry, and with the Nittany Lions ranked in the top twenty it appeared the Beavers were the equivalent of an early season snack. The Beaver Orange contingent represented a small drop in the bucket and I suspect this is the last meeting that the Beavers would want.
Pre-game found the usual rivers of humanity flowing into the bay area of Beaver Stadium. There were the rolling road cruise ships of Blue and White RVs that floated into the tail gate parking that swells the ranks of the university every home game weekend; smaller human tributaries that slowly filled the stadium. The Pre-game show, always a major production compared to many other games I have attended, was full of the usual pomp and no small amount of circumstance.
The crowd was all blue and white with the exception of what looked like 2.5% of the stadium pie was set-aside for the rather cowed orange beaver crowd. It is, after all, a VERY long way from Oregon to Happy Valley. Penn State came out early and showed why they were in the top twenty, and in perfect unopposition, Oregon State showed why they were not. The game ended up being 45 to who cares. The level of blue and white started receding from the stadium at half time and I expect the punter was left to turn the lights out. I didn’t make the entire game, but I enjoyed the pre-game, part game and a perfectly lovely if sunless Saturday. Perhaps it is close to being a tradition.
Thanks Terry for your thoughts!
